Updated September 2026. BibTeX Collector is built strictly local-first. We do not gather personal identifiers, monitor your browsing history, or transmit your research library to external servers.
Zero personal data collection
BibTeX Collector does not use accounts, passwords, email lists, tracking cookies, or external analytics SDKs. No telemetry or analytics scripts are included.
Strictly local-first storage
Your collected papers, custom citation keys, tags, and settings remain confined to your browser's private storage sandbox (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is synchronized to any remote database.
Private AI with Ollama
Document extraction can be executed on localhost using Ollama. When running in local mode, paper text never leaves your workstation. If you choose to configure cloud provider keys, requests are sent directly to that provider using your private credentials.
Authoritative registry verification
To eliminate artificial hallucinations, BibTeX Collector queries public scholarly APIs including Crossref, arXiv, and PubMed. Queries include only the paper title or identifier, with no personal identification attached.
Clear Chrome permissions
Tab permissions detect when you open a new research paper. Storage stores your reference catalog locally. The side panel keeps tools docked alongside your reading. Clipboard write permissions enable one-click citation copying.
Unrestricted data ownership
Export your entire reference library as a standard .bib file or purge stored records at your discretion. Removing the extension completely erases all local data.
